Bori Village

The village Bori is well known for peace and harmony as people of different state, religion, caste extends a kind co-operation to all. The soil of Borim has given so many well-known personalities to the state as well as to the nation. Some of Our ancestors have uplifted their families from generation to generation with their traditional occupation like agriculture, bettle nut farm, fishing etc. even during Portuguese regime.

Now a day to preserve these occupations has become difficult without any financial aids. Some youths were deprived of getting minimum education due to financial difficulties that they were facing at that time in spite of having talents.

Also, now almost 80% of residents of Borim are literate. The youths of Borim are now interested in either going for higher education or for some small-scale business. But for this finance becomes the problem.

Formation of Credit Cooperative Society

In response to this, a meeting of like-minded individuals from Bori village was called by Mr. Utkarsh S. P. Borkar on June 25, 1998, to discuss the proposal of starting a credit cooperative society. Eleven members attended the meeting, and after a brief discussion, it was decided to establish The Bori Urban Co-op Credit Society Ltd. to assist needy individuals and local businessmen.

The members agreed to study the rules and bylaws of other societies to frame their own. The meeting concluded with the next meeting scheduled for July 5, 1998, presided over by Mr. Jayant Miringker.

Subsequent Meetings

On July 5, detailed discussions on the society’s objectives and authorized share capital took place. A committee of three members—Utkarsh Borkar, Jayant Miringker, and Pandurang Naik—was appointed to draft the bylaws. The next meeting was set for July 19, 1998.

The bylaws were presented at the meeting on July 19, where it was unanimously decided to open an account with the Goa State Co-op Bank Ltd. in Ponda, operated by Anand Shinde, Haren A. S. Borkar, and Gurudas Karekar. All fees and capital amounts were to be deposited in this account.

Regular meetings were scheduled every fifteen days to review the society’s status. On July 26, 1998, it was decided to apply for the society’s registration as the required number of members and share capital had been raised.
